FosteringĀ Appreciation for Martial Arts and Traditional Culture
PNBA in the Community
To support continued growth in breadth and quality of the arts, the PNBA provides for grants and scholarships to individual artists, teachers, and their programs. The PNBA organizes educational and outreach events, coordinating with member schools and other arts and cultural organizations. Each December the PNBA Board of Directors solicits suggestions from the general membership regarding events, activities, and charities for the coming year that would benefit the martial and traditional cultural arts community.
Since its founding in 2003 the PNBA and its affiliates have directed more than $1.2M in grants and scholarships to support Japanese martial arts and cultural programming in schools, businesses, and community organizations throughout the Northwest. We have provided logistical and educational support for countless local arts and cultural organization events. Our members have volunteered thousands of hours and prepared more than 60 performances and program events for organizations as diverse as Seattle Parks & Recreation, Japanese Culture and Community Center of Washington, and Seattle Children's Hospital. PNBA programs have reached more than 7,000 adults and children through demonstrations and classes in schools and community events. We have invested in member programs, providing more than $5,000 annually to member programs in need of equipment, and serving as fiscal agent for fundraising and marketing. Most importantly, the PNBA has distributed more than $50,000 in grants and scholarships to individual artists, arts and cultural organizations, area schools, businesses, and community groups.
